Crewe will take centre stage at this year’s UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) as Cheshire East Council participates in the premier three-day event in Leeds from May 20-22, 2025.
The event will highlight the significant investment and growth opportunities in the region, with Cheshire East Council attending alongside Warrington Borough and Cheshire West and Chester councils. The focus will be on devolution plans, which are advancing rapidly, and the potential for regional development.
Crewe will be the central topic of Cheshire East Council’s agenda at the forum. A private roundtable has been arranged with representatives from notable organizations, including Muse, The Royal Town Planning Institute, The Berkeley Group, Mid Cheshire NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust, Nuveen Real Estate, Related Argent, Arcadis, Keele University, and more. Government officials and key stakeholders such as the Cabinet Office and the Government Property Agency will also attend.
The roundtable will discuss how Crewe’s strengths, such as its 360º hub station and the £1bn Leighton Hospital redevelopment, can be leveraged to position the town as a key gateway to the North. Plans will also explore how a potential devolution agreement could unlock new opportunities for growth and elevate Crewe to its “city potential.”
Council delegates, including the leader, deputy leader, and senior officers, will also participate in other roundtable and panel discussions covering topics like planning reform, infrastructure development, and regeneration innovation. Additionally, the council will present its vision for a new Garden Village in Handforth.
Cheshire East Council anticipates that the event will create over 50 opportunities to promote the borough and engage in discussions about its future growth.
Councillor Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, will attend on the second day of the event. He emphasized the value of UKREiiF as a platform to showcase the region’s achievements and future opportunities, particularly with the potential for a devolution agreement.
“Crewe will be at the heart of our growth plans,” he said. “Its 360º hub station is a major asset, and with devolution on the horizon, the town has immense potential to become a prime investment destination.”
The council will exhibit at stand H20 in the Royal Armouries exhibition space.
Deputy leader Cllr Michael Gorman also highlighted the importance of the forum. “UKREiiF is where the future of investment and regeneration begins,” he said. “Crewe is already one of the UK’s most promising investment opportunities, with transport links and the 360º hub station setting the stage for transformative growth.”
Other participants include Enterprise Cheshire and Warrington, as well as Mid Cheshire NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust, which is leading the development of a new health and care neighbourhood in Crewe, including a new Leighton Hospital. Russ Favager, senior responsible officer for the project, described it as “one of the largest infrastructure projects in Cheshire for many years.”
Cheshire East Council has secured sponsorship funding to support its attendance at UKREiiF. The Crewe roundtable is sponsored by Inner Circle Consulting, the council’s transformation delivery partner.
Matt Christie, director of external relations at UKREiiF, praised the council’s efforts in bringing together a diverse group of participants. “The potential around Crewe is huge, and we’ve already seen significant interest from investors and developers eager to explore the opportunities presented at the event,” he said.
